Starlings have made a noticeable comeback this year. The return of overwinter stubbles, a huge reduction in pesticide use and landscape-scale improvement of farmland habitats has borne fruit. Murmurations are now a daily spectacle, the chortling chatter of flocks in hedgerows is heard once more.
