NO SHOW WITHOUT PUNCH

The morning aft er winning his first major acting award in nearly three decades, Joel Tobeck has been back to rehearsal. And not just rehearsal, but a full run of A Stab in the Dark, an ambitious, technically complex theatre show in which there are two lead roles and he plays them both.

“I always get a bit nervous when the director says ‘right, we’re going to run it’ because I always feel like I’m sitting an exam – or I’m re-auditioning for the job,” Tobeck confesses. “But, you know, the runs go well – and while the process of rehearsals can be really tough and draining, I just love being around those like-minded people.”
