SUSTAINABLE AIMS

MANY OF us are keen to use more sustainable, environmentally friendly yarns for our knitting projects, and these days we are faced with a wider choice of sustainable yarns than ever before – so what do we need to consider if we want to be a ‘greener’ knitter?

Wool

Wool could be said to be the ultimate sustainable fibre. It ‘grows’ naturally, with little maintenance needed, and is a regular, low carbon impact harvest. What’s more, sheep are able to ‘lock’ atmospheric carbon from the plants they graze into their fleece. The choice of wool is vast; from single-breed wool to generic mixed blends.
