APPICE APEX

DRUMMER CARMINE APPICE has collaborated with so many famous musicians over the years that it would be a hard task to list every single one of them. Given the key role he played in such venerable combos as Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, King Cobra, Blue Murder, Beck Bogart & Appice, KGB and Rod Stewart’s band, not to mention his work with his brother and fellow drummer Vinny Appice among the many, Appice’s superstar status is certainly well established.

That said, his efforts continue unabated. In addition to a recent union with young up-and-coming producer and multi-instrumentalist Fernando Perdomo on their recent aptly named album Energy Overload, he’s put together a lavish box set that looks back on his recordings with the all-star group Guitar Zeus. It’s a generous gift from the drummer, one that includes a sprawling array of talented axemen — Slash, Tommy Thayer, Vivian Campbell, Brian May, Pat Travers, Zakk Wylde, Steve Morse, Elliot Easton and Neal Schon. [Note: These recordings are also available for a limited time as a collector’s bundle — only 100 made — in the Goldmine store at shop.goldminemag.com.]

Goldmine recently connected with Appice at his home in Lake Worth, Florida, not far from the residence of his Vanilla Fudge bandmate Mark Stein. Indeed, having recently celebrated his 75th birthday, Appice remains as upbeat and enthusiastic as ever.
