My email inbox is frequently clogged with press releases from the automotive industry that range from the tenuous to the topical. One of the most recent was from Volkswagen SA, which proudly announced VW and Audi accounted for one in every four vehicles sold in 2021… a whopping 60 959 units for VW alone! While it was the muchloved T-Cross that stood out with a 7 516-unit tally, the sportier and more niche T-Roc has become an increasingly common sight on our roads. We spent six months in the company of this stylish mid-ranger in Volkswagen’s SUV line-up to see just what lends to this appeal.
Our test unit was the rangetopping 2,0TSI 4Matic R-Line model, denoted by its fetching 19-inch bicolour rims and striking D-shaped LED daytime running light/indicator arrays in that deep chin spoiler.
