Pretty in Ink
This quilt shows you how to combine the joys of machine embroidery with patchwork. The construction method is quilt-as-you-go. The blocks are made in the hoop of an embroidery machine, and the quilting is done with the downloaded embroidery design.

Materials
• 20 fat quarters of assorted batik fabrics. See Note
• Batting — sufficient to cut 25 squares, 10in
• Soft mesh cut-away stabiliser
• Machine embroidery threads
• Bobbinfill
• 20cm (8in) hoop
• Masking tape
• Double-sided tape. Emma recommends X-Press It 6mm (¼in) wide tape, available from many art-supply stores
• Rotary cutter, ruler and mat
• Embroidery machine
• Regular sewing machine
• General sewing supplies

Cutting
From the backing fabric, cut:
• seven strips, 9in x width of fabric. Cross cut them to yield 25 squares, 9in
