TAKE A HISTORIC TOUR

  near Stratford-upon-Avon has been thatched since first being built in 1463, and Dan Quartermain re-thatched the roof of this in London (the original Globe burnt down in 1613 after a misfired canon during a performance of the Bard’s set the roof alight). Or visit a decorative ‘cottage orné’ in Kew Gardens, Richmond, where Georgian royals stopped for refreshments when out for walks .
