ANDRÉ LEON TALLEY 1948 – 2022

It is rare for a person to become a myth in their own lifetime, and yet it seems to me that André Leon Talley’s magic emerged near fully formed ateditor meant to so many. A boy brought up in North Carolina, he rose from the heartland of Black America in the 1950s to become an editor and keystone at American for some 30 years, as well as sage style consul to some of the most important designers of the 20th and 21st centuries. To me, he will forever be the captain; the man who steered a ship through uncharted waters that would one day carry many of us fellow outsiders to the heart of fashion.
