As the small stand of pines ended, my destination came into view. Beyond the creamy, nodding toetoe plumes, above the murmuring breakers, at the southernmost sweep of the cove, was Castle Rock.
Wairarapa’s Castlepoint – a tiny coastal community 65km east of Masterton – has two impressive monoliths. One, the lighthouse, is man-made and stands on the headland, a beacon for ships and cameras.
