Just as you’re set to plunge into winter, prepare for the light at the end of it by planting bulbs to put spring into your garden!

You may dream of carpets of purple tulips, golden daffodils and blue hyacinths, but remember that those mass plantings mean a bare garden bed through winter, and for it to be bare again when the blooms finish in October. Instead, look at your garden – be it contemporary, cottage, oriental or an air-freshening balcony – and see how you can have pops of colourful flowers that can be props to your existing framework and that add dainty light to your garden before the wildly extravagant colours
