With your birds, you reap what you sow

How can we shoot more of what we put down? This year — given the surging costs of pretty much everything — it’s a particularly important question.

I’m not sure any magic formula would ever bump up returns by 10%, but it is how well the basics are catered for that probably makes the greatest difference. Rearing, releasing, game cover establishment, cropping, the quality of roosting areas, feeding, dogging-in; the list is as long as it is varied. As I reflect on the season past and look ahead to the next, however, several things spring to mind.
