HE emergency training requirements and equipment available for racecourse vets has progressed over recent years. Eventing now also recognises the essential need to adopt similar casualty management strategies. In recognition of this, in 2021 the first-ever British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA)-approved “Event Incident Management” course specifically for eventing cover vets was held at Osberton International Horse Trials (courtesy of Bede Events). A second such event at Osberton is planned to take place in late September this year. The event highlighted significant progress in the understanding of emergency care of sport horses at events.
