Plusnet haggle saved me over £20

I had an 18-month contract for full-fibre broadband with Plusnet, paying £23.99 per month. I missed an email telling me my contract was up for renewal and that if it lapsed my bill would increase to £43.50 per month. I did notice it going out of my account though, and immediately got on the phone to renegotiate my contract. I was put through to the customer-retention team, and told them I was thinking of leaving because my circumstances were uncertain and I did not want to sign up for another 18-month contract. I also told them about another provider offering a cheaper deal at £20 per month.

They then offered me a 12-month contract at £20 per month, rising to £21.50 when the phone-rental cost goes up in March. Lesson learned. Always haggle for a better deal.
