It started when I saw a Renault Modus going round the roundabout at the cemetery close to home. “There’s a car with a superb idea that quickly died,” I said to myself. The Idea? The Boot Shute, a clever bootlid-sized hatch within the main tailgate so that stowage could be easily reached if there wasn’t room or need to open the tailgate. Why it didn’t catch on is beyond me.
