Blue flowers have long held a special place in the gardener’s imagination. Undoubtedly, blue in the border and in nature is attractive – the sky blue of are classics – and blue flowers are prized not just for their aesthetic, but for their rarity. As gardeners we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to reds, greens and yellows, but less than 10 per cent of all known flowering plants are categorised as blue – a true blue flower is rare indeed.
