The village of Abinger Hammer in Surrey has been home to commercial watercress growing since my ancestors, the Coe family, took on the business in 1854. I am fifth generation and I, my dad (pictured) and the team still produce watercress here the traditional way.
Watercress can be found growing wild in streams, relying on the free-flowing water, but it’s not always a good idea to forage for it – there may be pollutants in the stream and parasites on the plant. We use waterbeds fed with
