LISA WINS A GAIN!

After five Olympic gold medals and countless world champ wins, Dame Lisa Carrington would be forgiven for getting a bit blasé about trophies, but the canoeist insists she was thrilled to take out the Supreme Award at the Halberg Awards in Auckland, where she also won Sportswoman of the Year for the fifth time in a row.

“It feels so long ago that I competed and the world we’re in is a completely different place, but it’s still cool to be acknowledged and to celebrate all the amazing performances by other sportspeople,” Lisa, 32, tells Woman’s Day.

Having worn a custom silk dress from Tanya Carlson that “felt like a bit of me”, the O¯hope athlete adds, “I’m getting a little bit more OK with standing on a stage and giving a speech, and it’s nice to dress up. I don’t usually spend hours getting pretty – my usual look is super-casual.”
