Looking at home in the regal surroundings of the magnificent Christian IX’s Palace in Copenhagen, Kate – elegant in a Catherine Walker coat – received a warm welcome from Crown Princess Mary and Queen Margrethe II, whose Golden Jubilee this year coincides with the Platinum Jubilee of our own Queen, who is her third cousin.
Margrethe, 81, who has recently recovered from Covid-19, and the two Queens-in-waiting posed for a photograph in one of the opulent rooms and commented on the stunning decor. Then, after their audience, Kate and Mary delighted crowds gathered in the sunshine outside in the Amalienborg courtyard as they walked over to Frederik VIII’s Palace, Mary’s home, for a private lunch.
