Some of the problems that the gate exercise can help with are rushing, leaning, picking up canter leads, lack of flexion and pace control. It is a great tool to have in your toolbox.
THE SET UP
All you need for this exercise is an open area and eight markers (I use cones but tyres, rocks or even drench drums will do!).
Depending on what you are trying to achieve (more on this shortly) you will be aiming to ride a circle around 30m in diameter. Your markers will be about 6 to 8 metres apart at their closest points and further apart on the furthest points (the distance will depending on the size of the circle).
