Endangered in the wild, these African penguins have exhibit. Their new space is three times bigger than before with a 10,000-gallon pool for swimming, multiple burrows and boxes for nesting and hardscapes that replicate their Cape of Good Hope origins. Brian Aucone, Senior Vice President of Life Sciences, says “The African penguin flock can traverse many different terrains, then jump into the new and spacious pool to swim and porpoise. All the while guests enjoy multiple views of their activity and learn more about the conservation needs for this species.” The zoo staff is also working to improve the conditions of African penguins outside their premises. Animal care teams have been traveling to South Africa for more than 20 years helping save oil-covered birds and rehabilitating chicks. To visit the exhibit or get involved in conservation visit
