The small group of part-time prospectors had been traveling for a while through remote parts of Yukon, Canada, finding just enough bits of gold to keep them exploring. They stopped to rest beside Rabbit Creek, which empties into the Klondike River. The story of exactly what happened next is unclear. But a generally accepted version is that one member of the group, Keish (also known as Skookum Jim Mason), noticed something glistening on the creek bottom. Gold!
