y mum Jean and I had a truly special time when I took her to South Luangwa. Aged 75, she’d never been to Africa before, although she always loved wildlife stories and documentaries, and I wanted her to see the natural world I loved. Everything was new and wondrous to her, and that rubbed off on me too, seeing the wildlife afresh through her eyes. The bond from that trip is still strong, as are the memories, from her tears on seeing her first elephant, sundowner G&Ts, and tracking leopard on foot to flying in a microlight over the Luangwa Valley and taking a helicopter over Victoria Falls.
