FORM VS FUNCTION

NOT everyone will get Jay Donovan’s latest creation, dubbed ‘Amadeus’, just like not everyone appreciates the metal artistry of Max Hazan or Daryl Villanueva’s science fiction-inspired customs. One guy who does is US philanthropist and all-round Renaissance man Bobby Haas, proprietor of the Haas Moto Museum & Sculpture Gallery in Dallas, Texas.

Home to some 230 iconic bikes spanning 130 years (many of which were featured in the recent ‘The Motorcycle: Design, Art, Desire’ exhibition at Queensland’s Gallery of Modern Art), the Haas collection also reflects Haas’s view that the design and fabrication of one-off custom cycles represents the pinnacle of motorcycle design and engineering.
