For 18 years, fans had a love affair with Ben

The late, great Tunch Ilkin used to say the only quarterback who never got booed here was Scottie Campbell. I think he’s right. The history books tell us about Jim Finks shouting

back at fans from the huddle; about Ernie Stautner ripping into the city for booing Bobby Layne; they tell us how Joe Greene became enraged at fans who cheered Terry Bradshaw’s separated shoulder.

And those were the great quarterbacks.
