lorida’s 20th congressional district runs inland from West Palm Beach to Lake Okeechobee—a district long ruled by Big Sugar. The sugar industry has spent decades polluting the Everglades, but Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick was one of a handful of Democratic candidates in the primary to tell that she would not accept Big Sugar campaign money. After winning the fall primary by merely votes Cherfilus-McCormick has a good shot noted: “That’s not good for Big Sugar, but you can be sure it’s good for Florida.” Even if Sheila doesn’t flyfish, she’s already helping those who do.
