It’s a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world, wrote Ray Davies in his song Lola as The Kinks single reached No 2 in the 1970 charts. Thirty-four years later his world hadn’t become any clearer when he penned Yours Truly,ConfusedN10.

Written as a letter to the local paper, the song decries a growing selfish culture and the emerging internet world. His head must be really reeling in 2022 as Covid meets woke!

Ray Davies’s lyrics, usually lamenting the decline of some area of traditional British life, set the group apart from most of the others who were rushing headlong into changing everything for the sake of it.
