DRAFTING THE HAT

This is a relatively simple pattern drafting exercise utilising slashing, spreading and geometry – it’s crazy to think our teachers wasted so much time in high school asking us about hypothetical cylinders full of liquid when they should have been teaching us how to make hats!

You need to draft three pattern pieces: a crown, a band and a brim.

CROWN

Equation: (Crown measurement ÷ π) ÷ 2 = r

Measure the crown of your head. Divide this measurement by pi (approximately 3.14) then again
