What makes them tick

SOME YEARS AGO, I was travelling with three companions on a road in rural Estonia when we were stopped by a police officer. It was nearly 11pm and we were coming back from watching lekking black grouse, but I’m sure that she thought we had been out drinking. My friend Martin, who was driving, was breathalysed, but the officer revealed that he was clear. This wasn’t a surprise, as Martin hadn’t touched alcohol for more than a decade, after recovering from Lyme disease. He has never fancied alcohol since.
