once bought a cyclist’s training diary from the 1880s in an antique shop. It didn’t say where the rider who kept it lived, but from the places he went to it was clearly somewhere in London. The book is tiny, it’s about the same size as a credit card, and the training notes consist entirely of distances ridden, and the destination. “23 miles, Woodford.”
