When I was asked to write a piece about the legendary French actress and beauty, Catherine Deneuve, my immediate response was: mais oui!
But then I hesitated. I wasn’t sure if I was really qualified to do it because I haven’t seen many of her films. In fact, I’ve only seen one – the amazing , which came out 30 years ago, so not exactly a hot patoota. After a feverish half hour scrolling her filmography – she made five films in 2017 alone – I contemplated holding a French film festival in the comfort of my own bed, cramming her classics in a couple of days, but then I thought again. I might not have seen Ms Deneuve’s films, but I still have an intensely vivid impression of her, because she is that very special thing: a true icon. You don’t need to be a French film buff
