Nissan Patrol 70th Anniversary: To Goera Pan and back

The immaculately tarred and ruler-straight R360 from Upington to Goera Pan in the Kalahari was a breeze. I eased up to 120km/h, thumbed the cruise control and let the 298kW and 560Nm from the Patrol’s 5.6-litre V8 do its silky-smooth job.

Under my elbow, the convenient built-in cooler box was putting the freeze on my and snacks. Barely an hour of semi-autonomy later and Goera Pan pulled into view – a white, salty expanse in the middle of nowhere. We swung left off the blacktop and got our tyres (still at an asphalt-friendly 2.4 bar) carving
