The Somme 1916 – Beyond the first day

The book is intended first and foremost as a visitor’s guide to the areas mentioned in the title. It has more to it than that though, although any gamers visiting the Somme battlefields will find it invaluable as a guide and atlas.

It would be useful as a ‘tour guide’, as it has cycling and walking routes, but it also contains lots of descriptive accounts of the events at various points of interest – along with mentioning which forces were engaged on either side and how the attacks unfolded.

While reading the accounts, I found myself creating scenarios in my head from some of them, as they create an excellent starting point to begin researching from. Skirmish players will find lots of details of officer presence and shootings in
