The best thing to be said about the 2021 Chinese Super League season is that it was completed. Compared to five years ago, when top-tier clubs spent around £330 million on players in the winter transfer window – more than any other league in the world – there wasn’t much international interest as the 2021 season came to an end. It is even debatable as to how much attention local fans paid to the championship race.
