Should Google and Facebook refund victims of scams?

ou’ve got to hand it to Google, Facebook and the other tech giants - they never miss an opportunity to make money. Between 2019 and 2021 the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) paid more than £1.1m to websites for adverts warning the public about scams they might encounter on those very same websites. Yes, that’s correct: Google and co got money from both scammers the scammers.
