BROOKLYN in every glass
Standing outside of the Kings County Distillery, you could almost be mistaken for thinking you’d taken a step back in time to pre-Prohibition era New York. Located in Brooklyn’s Navy Yard, which was decommissioned by the US Navy in 1966 and sold to the City of New York in 1968, the distillery is a little piece of history that is surrounded by history.
Although it may be hard to believe when looking at the modern-day industrial set-up, the area surrounding what is now the home of Kings County Distillery was a prominent Irish neighbourhood, known as ‘Irish Town’, and was full of undercover distilling. Kings County’s market specialist Jennifer Blair explains there were “definitely gangs of New York vibes… there were varying degrees of legality so there would be many raids.”
