Competition at the international level comes under the remit of the FIP (Fédération Internationale de Philatélie), which, like FIFA for football or FIDE for chess, co-ordinates all the national organisations under one set of standards and rules. FIP patronage allowed the organisers of London 2022 to contact the 72 national organisations with a call for entries into the competition. Only those exhibits that have won a vermeil medal at national level are allowed to compete.
