Distro picker

I’m new to Linux but I’m having trouble choosing a distro to install on my laptop. I can’t make my mind up between Ubuntu and Linux Mint. I understand that Mint is basically Ubuntu under the hood, so would it be better to use Ubuntu?

I tried Mint in a live session and felt pretty at home with it. Ubuntu felt like a more complete and mature OS, but I didn’t feel particularly at home with it. I don’t have any particular specific need, just general laptop use.
