The handbill from the National Railway Museum that I am looking at is a flimsy sheet of pale blue paper that advertised cheap excursion fares and special trains on the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway on Whit Monday, 25 May 1863. The destination named in big bold letters was not a seaside resort, which we might perhaps have expected, but instead the industrial town of Blackburn.
