MATERIALS

• Fat eighth bundle or two packs of 5in charm squares – see Note
• 45cm (½yd) white quilter’s homespun (sashing, owl panel and swag)
• 10cm ( 1/8yd) green check print fabric (strip under owl panel)
• 50cm ( 5/8yd) large-scale print fabric (border)
• 30cm ( 3/8yd) green tone-on-tone print fabric (binding)
• 20cm (¼yd) multi-coloured spot print fabric (swag)
• Scrap of solid grey fabric (owl face appliqué on quilt)
• 1.25m (1 3/8yd) backing fabric – see Note
• Batting at least 120 x 100cm (48 x 40in)
• 15cm (¼yd) fusible stabiliser (owls)
• Scrap of pink felt (swag)
• Cosmo stranded embroidery cottons in yellow (144A), light grey (153A), dark lemon (302), hot pink (504), green (631), dark grey (2154) and orange (2186) (or colours to suit your appliqué fabrics)
• No 11 crewel needle
• 50cm ( 5/8yd) of 20mm (¾in) wide non-roll elastic (swag)
• Fibre fill
• Two 30mm (1¼in) hinged metal rings OR 1m (1yd) satin ribbon (swag attachment)
• Freezer paper
• Template plastic
• Fine-pointed fabric-marking pen or mechanical pencil
• Pinking shears (optional)
• Craft glue
• Compass
• Rotary cutter, ruler and mat
• Sewing machine
• General sewing supplies

Stitches used: Backstitch, blanket stitch, chain stitch, French knot, running stitch, satin stitch

Finished size: quilt 110.5 x 92cm (43½x 36in); swag 14 x 48cm (5½ x 19in) when the elastic is relaxed
