FUN IN THE FAR NORTH

When you think of your ideal traveling destination, you might imagine yourself in a typical tropical setting, sipping a margarita somewhere near the equator. Although there are many benefits to this particular locale, most countries near the equator don’t have a well-established system for cannabis when it comes to tourists. Out of all the countries in the world, Canada is one of only a few that has legalized adult-use cannabis. However, even those few other countries are restricted by allowing consumption but prohibiting sales. Canada, however, has fully embraced its cannabis industry.

The country was the second to fully legalize recreational cannabis (the first was Uruguay in 2013). Since October 2018, Canada’s recreational cannabis sales have gradually risen to successful heights, providing a thriving industry that appeals to consumers.

According to New Frontier Data’s “The Canada Cannabis Report: Industry Outlook 2018,” the projected amount of value for the Canadian cannabis industry would reach (CAD) $9.2 billion by 2025. While available data only supports the timeframe that’s halfway through that prediction, Canada is well on its way to becoming the world’s biggest hot spot for cannabis tourism. Although there are obstacles still to be overcome, let’s look at how Canada is doing so far by chatting with some successful cannabis tourism companies, and uncover what cannabis tourism could offer to the world in the future.

Between the inspiring historical sites and unique food variety (poutine, anyone?), Canada could very well become a hotspot destination for cannabis lovers everywhere, with a wide variety of dispensaries and products to explore. That is, if you can brave the cold.

By adhering to these principles, we will continue to offer choices Albertans can trust.”
