FLY DOMESTIC, SMOKE DOMESTIC

As the 2022 travel season approaches, Americans are faced with the new question: Does anyone still care if we’re caught with weed? The short answer is yes.

Legal advisors typically say do not fly with weed, simply because airports cannot guarantee a safe passage 100 percent. Many airports receive federal grant funding for maintenance and improvement, even if airport employees are instructed to ignore cannabis. When in doubt—federal law trumps state laws.

That said, flying with a bag of weed is safer than driving with a bag of weed in the car. Why? Because highway patrolmen routinely check out-of-state license plates for any type of contraband. You’re basically a sitting duck.

Anecdotally speaking, people flying from legal state to legal state say that they are carrying weed, but not completely risk-free.
