FOUR MEN IN A BOAT EVENTUALLY!

A few of you will know one of my lifetime’s passions is fishing, sea fishing in particular. In years post-retirement I have been fortunate to indulge this pastime in one of the finest sea fishing grounds in the world, the ›ords and coastal waters of northern Norway. This story is not about the practicalities of catching fish, way up in there in the Arctic Circle, but an account of one particular journey to these, our beloved, fishing grounds.

On this occasion, four of us embarked on a trip. Our destination was a fishing camp located in a coastal hamlet in the far north of Norway, called Sandland.

To get there one flies from London to Oslo – approximately two hours flying time – then from Oslo to, on this occasion, Hammerfest – a further two-and a-bit hours – finally boarding a ferry from Hammerfest to Sandland – another two hours away.
