Bike India (BI): What was the deciding factor that made you zero in on the geographic south pole for this expedition?

Santhosh Vijay Kumar (SVK): We knew that Royal Enfield was turning 120 years old and while we were thinking about it, we realised that somebody or the other has always ridden a motorcycle across every continent in the last 120 years. Then we thought we should do something really special to pay tribute to all these guys who have been riding Royal Enfield bikes around the world and I couldn’t think of anything better to do and this was in incubation for quite some time and the timing just happened to fall in place.

BI: What was the biggest challenge you faced during the planning phase and how did you prepare for it?

In the first round of testing that we did, we realised that the tyres are going to be the biggest issue because we didn’t know any better, so we took stock motorcycle tyres with tubes and they were running flat. We
