To Feb 20 – an exhibition of works by 32 finalists in the inaugural yapang Emerging Art Prize. The biennial prize was developed to celebrate, promote and support emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists from across the country. Contending artworks reflect each artists practice across all media and could utilise a mixture of forms, including (without limitation) sculpture, painting, drawing, photography, installation, sound digital, net or live art etc. The winner of the yapang Emerging Art Prize 2021 is , for her work . Also, by – responds to the Australian bushfires of 2019/2020 and the significance of First Nations knowledge and fire practices. Central to the exhibition is moving image work , which captures the environmental impact of fires on the country of the Yuin Nation. Extending on this powerful immersive experience and soundscape are additional moving image and photographic works, including . images encapsulate the progression of the bushfires, from the lightning strikes that ignited the initial blazes to the first new growth on the scorched trees.
