PHILUX PHILIPPINES

Beginning life in the 1980s as a backyard operation producing rattan furniture, founded by Max and Zelda Kienle, Philux has become a well-known name among design lovers in the Philippines. While there are hundreds of local manufacturers who make pieces for international brands such as Pottery Barn and Crate & Barrel, Philux created its own brand centred on championing Filipino design and traditions.

Today, it has an expansive workshop and seven showrooms across Manila. Currently, the company is run by the couple’s two daughters, Stephanie Kienle-Gonzalez and Jessica Kienle-Maxwell. “Working with family can be tricky at times as it comes with the difficulty of not being able to separate the personal from the professional, but it allows us to make swift decisions and have a solid support system,” says Kienle-Maxwell.
