Sporadic-E Season Approaches!
As I write this, we are in the final hours of 2021, but I am already thinking about Sporadic-E (Es) on 6 meters, which might start in March, but will certainly be in full swing by April. So, I wanted to remind you old timers, and educate newcomers, about the fun that is to be had.
Getting on the Air: E propagation is aptly named. It’s not predictable, but that’s part of what makes it so much fun. We will dive deeper into the potential causes of E, and discuss other propagation modes you need to know about, next month, but for now I want to outline how to prepare for operating on 6 meters. To enjoy the spring / summer season, you need the following: A transceiver capable of 6-meter single sideband, CW or digital, a simple horizontally oriented antenna, and patience. The good news is that most relatively modern HF transceivers now include 6 meters, making the band more accessible than ever before. As). Find Jim’s information here: <>.
