My father’s grandfather was Mark Llewellyn Knowlton, and he was a Civil War drummer boy for the Maine Volunteers. Somehow, after the war, this young veteran left his family and his home in Liberty, Maine, and in April 1871, he was appointed postmaster of Clear Lake, Minn. My family eventually lived there too.
