I’ve sailed the North River, the Ant and the Thurne, I’ve known them both wild and still, but the best sight of all’s when we make the last turn, and there’s old Davy’s mill.

Despite starting at sea level with the sea less than 3km to the northeast, the River Thurne flows southwest across Norfolk to join the River Bure. Various windmills can be seen dotted across the flat farmland to the north.
The river begins at West Somerton Staithe where there is limited parking beside the B1159. A notice warns that launching is only for the residents of Somerton
