“I’ve been into Volkswagens ever since I got my first beetle aged 17,” says the now 51-year-old Welshman. “My life has been all about surfing and I was already well into it before I could drive. My dad suggested I get a Beetle because they were very reliable. It was only afterwards that I found there was a strong connection between the lifestyles of surfing and Volkswagens.” Having moved on to a Wizard Beetle and a Bay Window camper, it was at a Bus Fest show in the late 2000s that Paul’s head was turned to the later style of Transporter. “You could see the popularity increasing, but they were way out of my price range,” he reveals.
