ENTRIES OPEN FOR TAUPO 1000
Taupo 1000 is all go for 2022. The organisers of the 2022 Taupo 1000 endurance race have confirmed entries on the books and are releasing ‘intent to enter’ documents for racers keen to contest New Zealand’s longest, toughest, endurance race.
The race is now 30 years old and in the past has attracted international entries from the USA, Scotland and Australia. The last Taupo 1000 capped its entry at 100 cars with a 10-car contingency waiting list.
Now the organising committee is confirming course details and working with the forest owners at the target venue, just ten minutes from central Taupo. Promoter Tony McCall says there is strong interest from overseas – provided New Zealand’s border restrictions and pressure on global supply networks will allow racers to come into the country.
In the meantime, local demand is growing daily.
“We’re getting calls from all around New Zealand and we are specifically inviting four-wheel drive teams to compete. These long endurance races suit four-wheel drive racers very well and in the past the 4WD and winch challenge set have enjoyed getting out into the forest and putting a shine on their top gear cogs.”
